Trauma-Informed Practice Reflection Journal

Completion requirements

Purpose

For this reflection journal, the purpose is to use the knowledge gained from the content in Module 6: What is Trauma? & Self-Care and Wellness of Early Childhood Professionals and Module 7: Trauma-Informed Practice to reflect on what you have learned from both modules and how it will affect the way you work with children in the future. If you are not currently working in a classroom, discuss what you have learned and how it will affect the way you work with children in a future classroom.

Additionally, this assignment will help you practice/gain the following:

    • computer skills, including use of Canvas (initial and reply discussion forum posts, discussion rubrics, grades/instructor feedback)
    • netiquette and effective communication skills
    • critical thinking and professionalism in written assignments
    • reflection and critical thinking

    • Syllabus/course requirements
    • Community of Inquiry

The Assignment

In a paper, write a narrative reflection using the questions below:

  1. Discuss what did you find most helpful, affirming, or challenging in this week in your readings? Provide examples. (NAEYC 6d)
  2. Discuss something you learned or relearned from the Brain Matters Documentary that you want to apply to your work as an early childhood educator? Provide examples or insights. (NAEYC 4b)
  3. Please include any points of interest or information gained about Wellness for Children that stood out to you causing you to reflect on your own personal experiences as a student, teacher, or parent of a child in a classroom. (NAEYC 4d)
  4. Discuss how information learned from the last two modules has changed the way you will work with children in the classroom in the future. Provide examples from the module. (NAEYC 4d)
